Cangshan Mountains & Erhai Lake
The Harmonious Duo: Guardian Mountain and Tear-Shaped Lake
Natural Story
The partnership of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake defines the soul of Dali. The nineteen snow-capped peaks of Cangshan stand as a mighty granite guardian, while the vast, teardrop-shaped Erhai Lake rests peacefully at its feet. This iconic duo creates a microclimate and a landscape of breathtaking beauty, celebrated for millennia as a model of harmonious coexistence between mountain and water, inspiring poets, painters, and seekers of peace.
Exclusive Experiences
- Can I cycle along the dedicated lakeside path with the best views? We arrange bicycles for a ride along the most scenic section of the Erhai Lake ecological corridor. You’ll pedal with the blue water on one side, the majestic Cangshan range on the other, and pass through traditional Bai villages with their white-walled homes.
- Can I take a cable car up Cangshan and walk the ‘Cloud Path’? We arrange a cable car ride partway up the mountain to access the “Cloud Walker’s Path,” a paved trail that traverses the mountainside. This easy walk offers ever-changing, breathtaking aerial views of Erhai Lake and Dali Old Town below, nestled among ancient pine forests.
- Can I board a traditional wooden boat on Erhai Lake? You will board a charming, canopied wooden boat for a tranquil cruise. Glide across the clear water, admire the reflection of Cangshan, watch local cormorant fishermen at work (in season), and visit a small, quiet lakeside temple or island.
